Jejune (Ecclesiastes 10:10)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is “jejune.”  Growing up, I remember there was always something to do.  My parents were pretty intentional on making sure that I stayed active.  My brother and I would play outside, go on bike rides, play baseball at the park with our friends, and do pretty much anything we could do while the sun was still up.  I don’t remember ever really being bored.  When we were not doing our own thing, we were involved in a ton of sports, extracurricular activities through school, and community projects.  Life was pretty good as a kid.  I kinda feel the same way about being a Christian.  There is always something more to do.  There is always someone more to serve.  It is important for us remember that God wants us to live life to the fullest.

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.” ~Ecc. 10:10

My question is: are you sharpening your ax?  Although we do not change and choose the circumstances in our lives, we do choose a way that we respond.  As we become more skillful in our daily routine, including seeking out God’s word, we put ourselves in a better position to be successful.  My prayer is that you ask God to give the strength that is needed to become a better person, and that you stay away from the dull and jejune life.  There is so much potential that God wants to bring out of you, you need only to ask him to see you through.  Become just a little bit better today.

Railbird (Ecclesiastes 5:2)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is “railbird.”  It seems that everyone has an opinion about stuff. When you do anything in life there will be others that think that they know what is best for you and the situation. And, even though they may be right (and much of the time wrong) it is our responsibility to God to be the kind of people that look to him for the best way to do life, and make decisions based on how we would like to be perceived by others.  And in the same way, we must be careful of what we say and do.

“Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.” ~Ecc. 5:2

My question is: what are the words that come out of your mouth?  Kevin always told me that it is very true that the things that one says is a reflection of the heart. I don’t think that’s anything new for anyone to hear.  My prayer is that when people hear you speak, and look at your actions, that they see a reflection of the kind of person that you would like to be.  Don’t be a railbird, just criticizing peeps for what you might think is a good reason, but instead be careful with your words. Remember that people judge you on that kind of stuff, both good and bad.  Use today as a way to honor God in the way that you live your life.

Gelt (Ecclesiastes 7:11-12)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is "gelt."  Accumulating wealth seems to be a pretty common theme throughout the Bible.  People in the Old Testament were often deemed successful by the kind of inheritance that they left to future generations.  It wasn't always necessarily money, a lot of times it was posessions, land, and livestock.  This passage below relates the need in our lives for wisdom, as it pertains to the desire for wealth and security.

“Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor.”

~Ecc. 7:11-12

My question is: what are the steps you are currently taking to gain more wisdom?  I remember years ago my pastor's wife gave me one of the most important pieces of advice I would ever receive.  She said that in the morning when I rise, and at night before I go to sleep I should always pray for both wisdom and discernment.  I feel that over the years God has answered those prayers.  I'm don’t always make the best decisions, but as I walk this journey with the Lord, he has increased my wisdom quotient.  My prayer is that each of you yearns for wisdom and discernment in your relationship with God.  He will give you all that is needed to set yourself up to leave a spiritual inheritance after you leave this earth.

Commix (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is "commix.”  When King Solomon was writing down his thoughts, it was amazing how much of what applied back then would apply today.  Wisdom supersedes time periods and allows for things of substance to stay relevant, even over the years.  In this particular verse, he wants to let the reader know about the importance of working together.  There is something about the process that makes us better.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.

~Ecc. 4:9

I think most of us are the same when it comes to understanding the concept of working together.  I remember when I was a kid, I fought with my brother a lot.  However, when it came time to get something done, miraculously we began to work together.  My question is, are you the kind of person others look to when it is time to get things done?  I know that sometimes the task at hand feels a little overwhelming and that you may be unable to finish.  My prayer is that you seek out others who want to accomplish the same things that are important to you.  When we work together, and commix our abilities, we have and opportunity to excel and be better than we could if we were alone.
