Bromide (John 8.1-11)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is “bromide.” Sometimes we tell people what they want to hear. In fact, I once asked my mentor why he never gave me any answers to my questions. He told me that even if the did give me an answer, it would not mean much unless I really believed it myself. So, he has spent the last 20 or so years helping me understand both what I want, and what I need to do. He never just said something without thinking about it first. Platitudes were never his thing. It reminds me of the way that Jesus talked to people. He pretty much got right to the point without making others feel inferior or unimportant.

But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” ~Jn. 8:9-11

My question is: what do people think about when you speak? Do they think of you as a person of your word… or of empty words? At times, I do not really understand what people are saying . I know that they are trying to communicate, but there is a disconnect. The cool thing about Jesus is that he knew how to connect with people. And in this instance, he saw something that even this lady did not know about her own life. My prayer is that you allow Jesus to speak into your life, and that you do not believe the bromides that others might try to attribute to your life. Jesus knows you intimately. That is why he is able to tell you stuff that you otherwise would not want to hear. Allow him to change you from within.

Praying for you,

Ad Hockery (Psalm 119:1-10)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is “ad hockery.”  It always seems to me that everybody else knows the way that I should proceed with my life matter what I do; everybody always has their opinion and thinks that they know what is best for me.  At first, I used to take the advice of pretty much anybody who had something to say.  The reason for this was that I figured that they had my best interests in mind.  And, for the most part, people usually did and still do.  But I realized very quickly that not very many people actually me on a level where they could speak truth into my life that would actually help me.

“Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!” ~Ps. 119:1

These are the kind of people from whom I seek my advice.  And, as you can imagine, there are very few people that fit this criteria.  I keep a high standard in my life for the people that want to help me grow to be a better person.  And that is why I put my trust and faith only in a select few.  My question is: who are the people that speak into your life?  My prayer is that you raise your standards for the criteria concerning the people that speak into your life. Put less time into ad hockery and fleeting plans, and fix your attention on the steadfast love and decrees that are from God.  Don’t take advice from just anybody.  They should be God-fearing people who strive with all their hearts to walk in the ways of Jesus.  Never waver.

Praying for you,

Sapient (Proverbs 12:15)

Good morning ladies,

The word of the day is “sapient.” I love reading the book of Proverbs because when I do not know exactly what to read I open it up and get good stuff, every time!  To think of the wisdom that King Solomon had is incredible.  I feel like those proverbs speak into my life and give me great insight.  One of my most favrit verses in that book is this one on advice and wisdom.

“The way of a fool seems right to them, but a wise person listens to advice.”
~Pr. 12:15

My question is: who is it that you have given the ability to speak into your life? I know that I would not be where I am today, nor be the person I am without the advice of many people who have walked the road before me.  I give a lot of weight to certain peeps in my life to help me make decisions and move in positive directions. My prayer is that you find men and women that are seeking God daily, and give them permission to help you grow closer to God.

My question is: who is it that you have given the ability to speak into your life? One of my favorite parts of college was the ability to make choices that would eventually affect the rest of my life. One of the best things that I ever did in those years was to seek counsel from other men and women who were much older and wiser than me. I know that I would not be where I am today, nor be the person I am without the advice of many people who have walked the road before me.  I give a lot of weight to certain peeps in my life to help me make decisions and move in positive directions. I still seek out certain sapient mentors, who have great judgment, often when making decisions in my life. My prayer is that you find men and women that are seeking God daily, and give them permission to help you grow closer to God.

Praying for you,
